Speaker Biography: Dr Stephen Hart
Dr Stephen Hart’s career has come full circle, from the hands-on technical world of the 1980s to the ethical frontiers of 2026. He began his professional journey on the shop floor as an Apprentice
Telecommunications Technician with Telstra, where he was responsible for the operation and maintenance of Australia’s early computer-controlled electromechanical telephony systems. This foundational experience in the trades provided him with a unique, grounded understanding of how
humans interact with complex, autonomous machines.
Building on his Associate Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Stephen expanded his expertise into
human factors, earning a Master of Organisational Development and a Doctor of Education. His subsequent career saw him transition from technical training into senior executive roles within major organisations, including Queensland Health and the University of Queensland. Throughout these
leadership positions, he remained focused on organizational culture, team dynamics, and the practical challenges of workforce capability.
Today, Stephen is a prominent voice in the field of Roboethics, where he explores the intersection of
engineering and human leadership. Through his research, blog, and consultancy, he advocates for a
future where AI and robotics are not seen as replacements for human workers, but as sophisticated co-workers integrated into the modern toolkit. As a Fellow of the Australian Human Resources
Institute and a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, Stephen brings a rare blend of executive insight and practical trade experience to the conversation on how we can ethically
and effectively navigate the coming technological workforce disruptions.
