He is also a Senior Lecturer in Security Science and Leads the Security and Intelligence Research Group at Edith Cowan University (ECU). With nearly three decades of experience across defence, critical infrastructure, resource sector operations, and academia, Warren brings a uniquely broad and dynamic skill set to strategic security and risk leadership. Warren began his career with 12 years of full-time service in the Australian Army, where he developed strong leadership, operational planning, and team-centred capabilities. This foundation shaped his ability to lead large, culturally diverse teams and deliver complex projects in high-risk environments. A committed lifelong learner, Warren holds a Bachelor of Science (Security) from ECU, a Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security from Charles Sturt, an MBA from the Australian Institute of Business, and a PhD from the University of Notre Dame (2018). He is also a Certified Practicing Risk Manager (CPRM) with RMIA, a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), and a Certified Professional with the Australian Computer Society. In 2005, Warren transitioned from the Army to the private sector, joining Osprey Asset Management in Iraq before moving into senior advisory and management roles with ExxonMobil in Papua New Guinea. Since 2015, Warren has led Sec Risk as Managing Director and Senior Consultant, providing high-level advisory services to a select portfolio of clients requiring tailored expertise in security strategy, risk management, and organisational resilience. This included secondments to support organisations in crisis and transition as Chief Operating Officer (COO), acting CEO, and senior level appointments in Safety, Risk, Info Sec, Security and Community Affairs during this time. Warren currently serves on three boards, including a charity, and continues to teach and mentor the next generation of security professionals at ECU while leading research in his discipline.
