Revealing the “Smart City” and the future of smart buildings at Integrate 2014

Jul 23, 2014

In this exclusive Australian appearance Joost Demarest, Chief Technical Officer of the KNX Association based in Belgium, will share his experience, technical expertise and vision for the future of smart buildings at the Future Trend Talks, the highly coveted seminar series at upcoming tradeshow Integrate on Wednesday 27 August 2014.

As KNX are the creators of Europe’s most recognised standard of intelligent building protocol, this highly anticipated keynote session will reveal how the Australian building industry can achieve a ‘Smart City’; a KNX City model where building automation (the simultaneous control of lighting, heating/cooling, security and household appliances etc.), industrial control systems and city infrastructure systems all work together as one.

In his keynote KNX and the Smart City, Demarest will explain the reasons why KNX, in-line with the International Energy Performance Regulations, has launched the KNX City concept which establishes the basis to achieve future Smart Cities based on KNX technology.

Joost Demarest believes a new era is dawning for home and building automation.

“Whether you’re in a single-family house or in an office complex, the growing IP influence on physical systems is increasing. At the same time, the escalated awareness of energy conservation, rising energy prices and the global climate change debate has also amplified the need for more efficient ways to use energy and to lower energy consumption.

“This session will explain in detail how a simultaneously controlled, monitored and signalled system can significantly lower energy consumption, and provide users with added convenience. In addition I will unveil KNX’s ‘Smart City’ – our vision for the future; where I’ll demonstrate how the harmonious sharing of data and control between energy suppliers, the power grid, buildings and users across one standard control protocol will set the benchmark for the future smart building,” said Mr Demarest.

Keynote Session: KNX and the Smart City, 27 August 2014 from 10.30am until 11.30am, Integrate 2014 – book tickets now.

The keynote will be followed by two other sessions:

Smart Building Facades – A New View by Anders Hall, International Affairs Manager from Somfy.

For many years the façade of a building has been seen as an element designed to block the outside world from entering the internal environment. Designers are now beginning to understand that the façade can be used intelligently to facilitate the controlled movement of energy, greatly reducing the operating costs of the building and improving occupant comfort. Using a recent study and global best practice projects, this seminar will demonstrate how the façade and automated dynamic solar shading can be incorporated into fully converged smart buildings of any size.

World Class Technologies in Australian Smart Buildings – a panel discussion with Anders Hall (International Affairs Manager from Somfy), Peter Garrett (Managing Director of mySmartCTI) and Joost Demarest (Chief Technical Officer at KNX).

This panel discussion will examine the challenges of delivering the perfect smart building and give delegates practical insights into ways buildings can be designed to seamlessly integrate global smart technologies into Australian buildings.

Integrate is offering delegates three seminar sessions for the price of one. Tickets to attend any of the three Smart Building Talks is $95.
